Lunar Pig - Inspired by the Chinese zodiac
The Australian Lunar coin series celebrates Chinese astrology and the Chinese zodiac. The 12-year series features releases marking the Year of the Mouse (1996), Year of the Ox (1997), Year of the Tiger (1998), Year of the Rabbit (1999), Year of the Dragon (2000), Year of the Snake (2001), Year of the Horse (2002), Year of the Goat (2003), Year of the Monkey (2004), Year of the Rooster (2005), Year of the Dog (2006) and Year of the Pig (2007).
With the Lunar Pig the Lunar Series I was completed in 2007. The 1oz coin is sold our worldwide and was only minted 11,216 times.
In 2007, The Perth Mint’s internationally renowned Australian Lunar Gold Coin Series II celebrates the Year of the Pig, the twelfth animal in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac.

The front of the Lunar Pig coin can be considered as classic for most of the Australian gold coins, with the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA", the year "2007"and" 9999 Gold ".
The reverse of each coin depicts a a piglet standing in some water with rocks. The Chinese character for ‘pig’ and the inscription "Year of the Pig" also appear in the design with The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.

The coin was issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965 and has a fine gold content of 99.99%.
