C. Hafner Mint

C. Hafner is one of Europe's leading precious metals refineries and mints, based in Pforzheim, Germany. They are pioneers in the field of precious metals recycling, known for recovering metals from old jewelry, scraps, and bulk materials, and processing them into investment-grade gold bars as well as materials for industrial and medical applications.

History of C. Hafner mint

Founded in 1850 by Carl Hafner, the C. Hafner mint has been in operation for more than 170 years and has a long-standing reputation for excellence. The company was originally established as a jewelry manufacturer and gradually expanded its operations to include precious metals refining, recycling, and the production of investment-grade bullion products.

It was still in the early days of the company that Carl Hafner recognized the potential for recovering precious metals from processing waste. This soon became a distinguishing factor for C. Hafner. The company reprocessed metals and sold them back into the market as casting materials as well as semi-finished products and dental alloys. During World War II, the C. Hafner factory was completely destroyed. Following the war, it was rebuilt by Robert Hafner, who moved headquarters to Bleichstraße and began to adapt the company’s operations to modern business strategies.

Today, C. Hafner has positioned itself as a leading precious metal technology company that's revolutionizing the platinum market, investing in cutting edge powder technology, and producing fine, high-quality gold bullion products.

C. Hafner bullion products

C. Hafner offers a diverse range of gold bullion products made from 100% recycled scrap gold (also known as 'secondary gold), making them ecologically and ethically conscious. The company's entire gold extraction process is carbon neutral, offering a sustainable way for eco-conscious investors to purchase gold products without harming the environment.

Gold bars from C. Hafner are available in different denominations, from the smallest 1g C. Hafner gold bar to the hefty 1kg C. Hafner gold bar and every size in between. Despite their recycled nature, most of C. Hafner’s gold bars have a purity of 999.9. Some of the mint’s most notable bullion products include:

  • Casted gold bars: Any C. Hafner gold bar that weighs over 100g, including the 100g C. Hafner gold bar, is cast. These are produced by recycling gold scrap material and pouring it into molds, resulting in a more imperfect finish.
  • Minted gold bars: These have a more refined and polished look and include the 50g C. Hafner gold bars. All minted C. Hafner gold bars are made from 24-carat gold with 999.9 purity.
  • SmartPack: The C. Hafner SmartPack is a blister pack of small 1g gold bars that come in a set of 10. These are useful investments that can be broken up and sold as needed without surrendering the entire investment.

Above all, C. Hafner mint’s commitment to sustainability, ethical sourcing, and carbon-neutral gold production makes it stand out amongst other mints. This, coupled with the refinery’s high-quality gold products, makes the company a true leader in modern gold bullion production. Any eco-conscious or ethically-minded investor would be pleased to include C. Hafner products in their precious metal trading portfolio.

C. Hafner design

C. Hafner’s fine gold bars carry recognizable designs that help demonstrate authenticity and make them easily identifiable, from the engravings on the bars to the tamper-resistant packaging. When you buy gold bars from C. Hafner, you’ll notice an option to purchase cast gold bars, minted gold bars, and innovative products like the C. Hafner SmartPack. Although different, these all carry distinct characteristics of C. Hafner bullion products.

Logo & branding

C. Hafner incorporates its logo and branding elements into the design of its gold bullion bars. On the obverse, gold bars bear the mint's name in bold text 'C. HAFNER' next to the company's logo, which features the stylized letters ‘C.H’ inside an urn. Below that are the German words 'since 1850' ('seit 1850') and 'GERMANY'. At the bottom of the bar is an engraving of the weight, purity level, and the words FEINGOLD. The reverse of the bars typically features the company's logo and unique serial number. You can see this typical design in the 100g C. Hafner Minted Gold Bar. Cast bars, while similar, feature a more minimal design with less detail, as seen in this 250g C. Hafner Gold Bar.

Assay certificates & cards

Some C. Hafner bullion bars come with assay certificates or authenticity cards verifying the metal content, purity, and origin of the bars. These certificates provide additional assurance of the bars' authenticity and quality. In many cases, you will find the authentication certificate securely packaged with your gold bullion product.

Many C. Hafner gold bars will arrive in tamper-resistant blister packaging that display various information, such as the fineness, weight, and certificate number of the bullion product, as well as the company's information such as address and website. These security cases also feature C. Hafner's proud status as an LBMA Good Delivery Refiner.
