The Gold Kangaroo 2026 from The Perth Mint contains one troy ounce of 99.99% pure gold.
Australia's flagship bullion coin gets a new reverse design every year, which makes each year date easy to tell apart. The 2026 design by Neil Hollis shows two kangaroos leaping across water, with ripples and splashes in the foreground and a mountain landscape behind them. We source new coins directly from The Perth Mint.
What makes the Gold Kangaroo 2026 special
A privy mark with the number 40 marks the 40th anniversary of the Australian Nugget, the country's first official legal tender gold bullion series. The reverse also carries the inscription KANGAROO, the coin's weight and purity, the 2026 date and the mint's traditional P mintmark. The obverse shows Dan Thorne's effigy of King Charles III together with the face value of 100 Australian dollars.
For protection against counterfeits, the reverse includes a micro-laser engraved letter that can only be seen under a magnifying glass. Each coin comes sealed in a protective acrylic capsule, so it arrives without fingerprints and can be stored in the same capsule.
The Kangaroo is legal tender in Australia under the Currency Act 1965, and The Perth Mint guarantees its weight and purity. Its face value of 100 Australian dollars is symbolic: the coin is worth many times more because of its gold content. You will sometimes see it listed as the Kangaroo Nugget, a name that recalls the original series.
