1 oz Britannia Charles III Gold Coin | 2026

SOLD OUT

Buy the 2026 1 oz Gold Britannia at the live price: one troy ounce of 999.9 fine gold from The Royal Mint with King Charles III. The Britannia is the United Kingdom’s flagship one-ounce bullion coin and one of the most widely traded gold coins in Europe. Its pure 24-carat gold, standard one-ounce weight and Royal Mint origin make it easy to value and easy to resell.

Design: Philip Nathan’s Britannia and King Charles III

The reverse shows Philip Nathan’s standing Britannia, first used on the gold Britannia in 1987. She holds a trident and an olive branch, with a shield bearing the Union flag at her side, symbols of the sea, peace and protection. The obverse features the uncrowned portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by Martin Jennings, with the inscription and the £100 denomination.

The Britannia was developed by the team behind the 12-sided £1 coin and carries four security features:

  • a latent image that switches from a padlock to Britannia’s trident as you tilt the coin;
  • surface animation that gives the background waves a sense of movement;
  • a micro-text border reading “DECUS ET TUTAMEN” (“an ornament and a safeguard”);
  • tincture lines that pick out the Union flag on Britannia’s shield.

These details make the coin quick to check by eye and hard to counterfeit.

Legal tender and UK tax notes

The Britannia is UK legal tender with a face value of £100, although its value is driven by its gold content. Because it is legal tender, gains on Britannias are generally exempt from Capital Gains Tax for UK-resident individuals, and as investment gold it is not subject to UK VAT. See our overview of CGT-free investments. Your own tax position depends on your circumstances; this is general information, not tax or investment advice.
