1 oz Maple Leaf Silver Coin | 2024
Since 1979, the Maple Leaf has been minted by The Royal Canadian Mint. "Maple Leaf" refers to the national symbol of Canada, representing tolerance, peace, and unity. Unlike a "normal" maple leaf with 23 points, this one has only 11 points. These coins are the first since the Maple Leaf series began to feature a new monarch, Charles III.
The Obverse Side
It features the well-known maple leaf that also adorns the national flag of Canada. Finely detailed, you can see the individual veins within the leaf. The background is cross-hatched, serving as an anti-counterfeiting measure. Another security feature is a small maple leaf above the letters "OZ." Above the (large) leaf, the curved inscription "CANADA" is displayed, with the fineness "9999" arranged a bit below it on the left and right. Below the leaf, you can read "FINE SILVER," "1 OZ ARGENT PUR." "ARGENT" stands for the Latin term "Argentum," which translates to "silver."
The Reverse Side
The reverse side of this reeded-edge coin features a left-facing portrait of King Charles III. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, always faced right on all coins. The King is depicted without a crown, wearing what appears to be a ceremonial suit. Upon closer inspection, you can see the initials "SR" on the right lapel, a reference to Canadian engraver Steven Rosati, who created this portrait of King Charles III. Above his head is the inscription "CHARLES III," and at the bottom edge, you can see "5 DOLLARS 2024," indicating the Maple Leaf's status as legal tender. The fine weight of this coin is 31.1035 g.
