What is the 1 oz Maple Leaf silver coin 2027?
The 1 oz Maple Leaf silver coin 2027 is a bullion coin from the Royal Canadian Mint containing one troy ounce (31.1035 g) of silver at a purity of 999.9/1000. The Canadian coin has a face value of 5 Canadian dollars, a diameter of 38 mm and shows the sugar maple leaf.
The silver Maple Leaf has been issued since 1988. We source new vintages directly from the Royal Canadian Mint. At StoneX Bullion you buy the coin at the live price, which is continuously adjusted to the precious metals market.
What security features does the 1 oz Maple Leaf silver coin have?
According to the Royal Canadian Mint, the 2026 silver Maple Leaf has three security features that make authenticity easier to check (radial lines, a laser micro-engraved maple leaf with the digits of the mint year, e.g. “27”, and Bullion DNA); MINTSHIELD, a surface protection against white spots (on silver since 2018), is not a security feature.
In the 2026 vintage, the background of the reverse features radial lines that fan out the light. The tiny laser-engraved maple leaf with the digits of the mint year only becomes visible under a magnifier. Dealers with the right reader can verify the coin via Bullion DNA. The features of the 2027 vintage apply once the Mint has published them.
How does silver differ from gold in the Maple Leaf?
The Maple Leaf silver coin shares the sugar maple leaf design of the gold coins, but at 38 mm across it is larger than the 30 mm 1 oz gold coin. Both contain one ounce at a purity of 999.9/1000. The price per ounce follows the live price of the metal in question.
Please note that silver coins may be taxed differently from investment gold. Please check the rules that apply to you with your tax adviser.
