Design: Britannia, the Union flag and King Charles III

On the reverse stands Philip Nathan’s Britannia with trident, olive branch and shield, a design first created for the Britannia range in 1987. The obverse shows Martin Jennings’ uncrowned portrait of His Majesty King Charles III with the £2 face value. Britannia herself has appeared on British coins since Roman times, which makes this one of the oldest national symbols on any coin in circulation today.
