1/4 oz Britannia Charles III Silver Coin | 2027 – 30th Anniversary

Quarter-Ounce Silver Britannia 2027 – 30th Anniversary Edition

The 2027 Britannia silver coin 1/4 oz contains 7.78 g of 999 fine silver, measures 22.00 mm and has a face value of 50p. Like every silver Britannia of the year, it bears a one-off '30' wave privy mark and a background texture with the anniversary number, marking 30 years since The Royal Mint added a silver edition to the Britannia range in 1997.

The range began with gold in 1987, gained silver ten years later and a platinum edition in 2007. All share Philip Nathan's standing Britannia with shield, olive branch and trident, shown here on the reverse; the obverse carries Martin Jennings' official portrait of King Charles III.

A quarter ounce of silver in context

Four 1/4 oz coins contain the 31.1035 g of fine silver of one 1 oz Britannia, which at 38.61 mm is considerably larger than this 22.00 mm coin. In diameter, the silver quarter ounce exactly matches the 2027 gold Britannia 1/4 oz; the two differ in metal, fineness (999 versus 999.9), face value (50p versus £25) and privy mark ('30' versus '40'). The four security features in use since 2021 – latent image, micro-text, tincture lines and surface animation – are applied at this size as well.

Price and delivery at StoneX Bullion

The price is live and updates continuously. It combines the market value of 7.78 g of fine silver with a premium for minting, logistics and trading. As these costs arise per coin, the premium per gram of a 1/4 oz coin is generally higher than that of the 1 oz silver Britannia; the current premium is displayed on this page. StoneX Bullion is part of StoneX Group, a NASDAQ-listed Fortune 50 company, and an LBMA Affiliate. New coins are bought directly from the mint, and every delivery is fully insured2.

FAQ

How much silver does the 2027 1/4 oz Britannia contain?
7.78 g (0.25 troy oz) of fine silver at a fineness of 999. The coin measures 22.00 mm and has a face value of 50p.
How does the 1/4 oz compare with the 1 oz silver Britannia 2027?
It contains a quarter of the silver of the 1 oz coin, measures 22.00 mm instead of 38.61 mm and has a face value of 50p instead of £2. Design, '30' privy mark and security features are the same.
Is the silver 1/4 oz the same size as the gold 1/4 oz Britannia?
Both have a diameter of 22.00 mm. They differ in metal and fineness (999 silver, 999.9 gold), face value (50p, £25) and privy mark ('30' for the silver Britannia, '40' for the gold Britannia).
Does the 1/4 oz silver coin carry the '30' privy mark?
Yes. The Royal Mint applies the one-off '30' wave privy mark and the anniversary background texture to all 2027 silver Britannias, marking 30 years since the first silver Britannia of 1997.
Why is the premium per gram higher than for the 1 oz coin?
Minting, packaging and handling costs arise per coin. On a 1/4 oz coin they are spread over 7.78 g of silver rather than 31.1035 g, so the premium per gram is generally higher. The current premium is shown on this page.
