The Smallest Gold Britannia – 1/10 oz, 2027 Anniversary Edition

The 1/10 oz is the smallest coin in the 2027 gold Britannia range: 3.11 g of 999.9 fine gold on a 16.50 mm flan, with a face value of £10. Despite its size, it carries the complete anniversary design of the year – the '40' wave privy mark for the 40th anniversary of the gold Britannia and the matching background texture.

Britannia's history on coinage reaches back much further than 1987: she first appeared in AD 119 on coins of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. The 2027 coin shows her in Philip Nathan's design, standing with shield, olive branch and trident, while the obverse carries the coinage portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings.

Fine detail on 16.50 mm

At 16.50 mm, the coin is roughly half as wide as the 1 oz Britannia (32.69 mm), and ten 1/10 oz coins together contain the 31.1035 g of fine gold of one full ounce. The next size up is the 1/4 oz at 22.00 mm. The four visual security features in use since 2021 are reproduced at this scale as well – latent image, micro-text, tincture lines and surface animation – so that even the smallest gold coin of the series can be checked visually.
