Sovereign Gold Coin | 2022
Let’s celebrate the amazing monarch that is Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II! Throughout her long reign, she has dedicated her life to her nation, to her people and is about to mark an unprecedented milestone: 70 years since her accession to the throne. It's not short of amazing and in 2022, Queen Elizabeth II will be the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. She will officially be the longest-living reigning monarch ever.
The Royal Mint could not let this go unnoticed and is using the 2022 Sovereign to celebrate this moment.
The Gold Sovereign is one of Britain’s most famous coins, often referred to as “the chief coin of the world”. The first Gold Sovereign was minted in 1489 by Henry VII, has a long history, and is often considered by many as the flagship coin of The Royal Mint.
The 2022 Sovereign design features a rare change to the reverse of the coin, an exclusive design created especially by Timothy Noad for this occasion. Here we see a different interpretation of the Royal Coat of Arms featuring the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland on either side of a crowned shield. We read the words "Dieu et Mon Droit" (the motto adopted after the Battle of Gisors 1198 which is now a symbol of British pride, after Richard I refused to serve France.)
The obverse of the coin represents the current portrait of her majesty designed by Jody Clark. Queen Elizabeth II is wearing her famous diadem crown and the royal jewels with exceptional attention to detail (wrinkles included!)
Each coin weighs 7.98g and has a fine content of 7.32g. It is struck in 22 carat gold per tradition and is both VAT FREE and exempt from Capital Gains Tax making it an excellent choice for investors. The fact that there is a change in the design will surely mean a high demand by collectors and investors alike.
