1 oz Britannia and Liberty Gold Coin | 2026
The 1 oz Britannia and Liberty gold coin 2026 from The Royal Mint contains 31.1035 g of 999.9 fine gold, limited to 5,000 coins. It is the second bullion release of a design that made history in 2024: the first joint work by the Chief Engravers of The Royal Mint and the United States Mint, Gordon Summers and Joseph Menna.
Design of the Britannia and Liberty gold coin
The layout borrows from playing-card court figures. Britannia, in her Corinthian helmet and holding a trident, and Liberty, with a flaming torch beneath a ring of stars, share the field in mirrored positions, so each appears upright when the coin is turned. The pairing celebrates the “special relationship” between Britain and the United States, a phrase coined by Winston Churchill in 1946. King Charles III appears on the obverse in the portrait by Martin Jennings.
Bullion price, collector story
With a limited mintage of 5,000 for the 2026 gold edition, the coin sits between a plain bullion ounce and a proof collector piece. It is struck to bullion standard and priced from the gold value plus a premium, yet the transatlantic design and small run give it a story that ordinary bullion lacks. Buyers who own the 2024 issue often add 2026 to start a run of dates.
In the EU, investment gold such as this coin is VAT-free.
