The Tudor Beasts Series Yale of Beaufort 1 oz gold coin 2023
StoneX Bullion and the Royal Mint are pleased to present this beautiful Yale of Beaufort gold coin from the Tudor Beasts series. This is the second coin in the bullion series that celebrates the Tudor dynasty.
The inspiration behind the Royal Tudor Beasts collection comes from the ten stone beasts that line the Moat Bridge at Hampton court palace. They are the symbols of Henry VIII’s union with his third wife Jane Seymour. The yale became known as a Beaufort beast and was used by Henry VIII to emphasise his family connection to the Beauforts – a powerful royal family from the House of Lancaster – and add credibility to his claim to the throne.
We owe the beautiful design of this coin to David Lawrence, an illustrator and sculptor for more than 30 years, now also working for the Royal Mint on amazing projects. Of his design and concept, Lawrence says : ““My aim was to take inspiration from the Tudor carved beasts and modernise them, without losing their historical or heraldic importance.” The result is clearly spectacular and Lawrence has captured the yale on the reverse of the coin in a bald design. The yale is a mythical creature that features the body of a goat with the tusks of a boar on its face and the tail of a lion. Here the yale is up on its hind legs as its front legs rest on the Arms of Jane Seymour. Some additional security is provided by a chainmail surface animation background texture, another way to reassure the investors.
The obverse of the coin features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fifth definitive coinage portrait of her Majesty and it has been designed by Jody Clark. Queen Elizabeth wears her diadem crown and the royal jewels and we can find her name, the legal tender of the coin 100 pounds and the initials D.G REG F.D (By the Grace of God Queen and Defender of the Faith ). She looks incredibly regal, aged 89 and the designer has succeeded in conveying all her qualities as a Monarch: honesty, dedication, sense of duty.
By acquiring this gold coin, you will buy a part of British history, and pay homage to the amazing Monarch that was Elizabeth II.
