1 oz Queen's Beasts White Greyhound of Richmond Gold Coin (2021)
The tenth and final release in the sought after Queen’s Beasts series by The Royal Mint.
When Her Majesty The Queen was crowned in 1953, the entrance to Westminster Abbey was guarded by ten amazing creatures. The Queen’s Beasts were six-foot-tall statues that symbolized the heritage and history Queen Elizabeth II inherited that day. These royal protectors have been brought to life in a collection named in their honour, which began in the year The Queen became the world’s longest-reigning living monarch.
In heraldry, the greyhound is associated with qualities such as fitness and skill, as well as faithfulness and loyalty. Descendants of Edward III used the greyhound as a badge and it became closely associated with the House of Lancaster before passing to the Tudor family.
