The motifs that change every year are based on the zodiac sign of the Chinese lunar calendar, which this coin series also has to thank for its name.Lunar II Monkey 2 oz Gold 2016 - Design and motif
The motif side of the Lunar Monkey 2 oz Gold 2016 shows a single monkey sitting on a thick branch with a peach to its right, which hangs between the leaves of the tree. The animal is gazing at the fruit. The motif was designed by the Australian artist Ing Ing Jong and her initials can be seen at the right edge of the image on the trunk of the tree. A Chinese inscription below the fruit states the name of the animal, while the Latin letter "P" refers to Perth Mint as the place where it was minted. The inscription below the figure states the title of the issue "YEAR OF THE MONKEY". The motif is framed by several broken lines to form a circular frame, thus highlighting the motif. The front of the coin traditionally shows a portrait of the British Queen Elizabeth II, who is Head of the Commonwealth and the official Head of State for Australia. The portrait dates from 1998 and shows the profile of the monarch wearing a classic diamond tiara. An inscription states the name of the Queen "ELIZABETH II" and the country of issue "AUSTRALIA". Below the portrait, information on the coin material "GOLD", the denomination of "2 oz", the fine content of "999.9", the year of issue "2016" and the nominal value of "200 DOLLARS" can be read.
