This coin is part of the "African Wildlife Collecting Programme". 2004 was the year of the first minting of a Somali elephant, with the motif of themed pachyderms changing annually.
The Obverse Side
It takes you to the Somali steppe and shows you two fighting bull elephants. The embossing impresses with a particularly lifelike depiction of the mighty animals. You can also read the words "AFRICAN WILDLIFE", "ELEPHANT", the denomination "1 oz" and the purity of the fluted coin "Au 999.9" - "Au" is the abbreviation for the Latin word "Aurum" and means "gold".
The Reverse Side
Here you can see Somalia's somewhat martial-looking coat of arms, flanked by two leopards, each standing on a hind paw and holding a shield with a star in their paws. They are framed by the words "SOMALI REPUBLIC", below which you can see the minting year of the Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt "2024" and the face value of the fluted coin of "1,000 SHILLINGS", which in this case is 1,000 Somali shillings.
