Numismatist

Simply defined, a Numismatist is a person who studies coins, currency or medals. Numismatics is defined as the appreciation of a coin's history or the craftsmanship involved in its creation rather than simply the act of hoarding cash. There are various types of numismatist – a professional numismatist is a person who studies coins, authenticates them and grades them commercially, such as a coin dealer, while scholarly numismatists often work in universities or public collections and study coins to learn about their role in history and economics. However, for many collectors who are also numismatists, the pleasure comes from studying the coin's beautiful artistry and craftsmanship or learning about great people and historic places and eras through its background and design.
