The Obverse

This coin from The Royal Mint features a majestic depiction of two symbolic animals, "The British Lion" and the "American Eagle," united in a harmonious design. Both animals are intricately detailed and depicted very realistically, creating a lifelike representation. The curved beak and feathers of the eagle, as well as the impressive lion's mane, are clearly visible. The lion's paw, extending beyond the surrounding circle, appears to grasp an olive branch on the right, symbolizing peace. Within this circle, below the lion's mane, you can see the initials "JM," representing John M. Mercanti, one of America's finest coin engravers. The circle encircling the two symbolic motifs of Great Britain and the United States places these powerful representatives of the animal kingdom prominently in the viewer's gaze. To the left of the eagle, you will also find an olive branch. Above both animals is the inscription: "THE LION AND THE EAGLE." Along the edge of the reeded coin, the repeating inscription "1 OZ FINE GOLD 999.9" is engraved.

The Reverse

The reverse features the now-familiar profile portrait of Charles III, who, unlike his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, looks to the left. Around his portrait, you see the inscription: "CHARLES III. D. G. REX. F. D. 100 POUNDS." The letters are abbreviations of the Latin "Dei Gratia Rex Fidei Defensor," which translates to "By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith." The fine weight of this exquisite coin is 31.1035g.
