1 oz Tudor Beasts The Lion of England Platinum Coin | 2022
The Royal Tudor Beasts series is produced by the Royal Mint and is inspired by the group of heraldic creatures that stood guard at Hampton Court Palace during the reign of Henry VIII and are still present today.
Now is your chance to start your Tudor Beasts collection by purchasing the first coin of the series: the 1oz Tudor Beasts Lion of England in its platinum version.
This beautiful platinum coin celebrates the Tudor dynasty which was on the throne from 1485 to 1603. Strong, intimidating and regal, the lion was a fierce figure to greet visitors to Hampton Court Palace and embodied the values of Henry VIII and his kingdom. The original, gargoyle-like statue of the lion on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace has inspired the design of this coin.
The reverse side of the 2022 Tudor Beasts Lion coin depicts the famous Lion of England supporting the Royal Arms of King Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour. David Lawrence created the reverse design, which is set against a new surface animation background texture. He has captured the characteristics of the beautiful Lion of England in all its glory, with a flowing mane and sharp claws. The Lion of England is a ferocious creature that represents the king and has been a symbol of monarchs since the 12th century. The inscriptions on the reverse are ‘LION OF ENGLAND 1 OZ FINE PLATINUM 999.5 2022’.
The obverse of this coin is quite special as it depicts the last portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.(all production of Royal Tudor Beasts bullion coins featuring the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II have been stopped)
It is the 5th definitive coinage portrait of the Queen by Jody Clark. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. An exceptional attention to details has been given to the drawing by the designer. (wrinkles included !) The inscription above her head “Elizabeth II, D.G, REG F.D are the initials for a Latin phrase which translates to “By the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith followed by 100 POUNDS, the face value.
The 2022 Lion of England coin is the first bullion coin to be released from the series, and contains one troy ounce of pure 999.5 platinum. As with other coins from The Royal Mint, it is considered legal tender and is therefore exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
Over the next five years, the Royal Mint will release several beasts as part of the Tudor Beasts collection. Start your collection today by purchasing this beautiful 1 oz Lion of England Platinum coin.
