Krugerrand 1 oz Gold coin 2022

First released in 1967 by the Rand Refinery in South Africa, the Krugerrand is one of the most popular one ounce gold coins in the world.

After its conception at the end of the sixties, the Krugerrand was being minted at a rate of 40 000 units per year. This rate continued to grow until 1978 when a record breaking 6 million coins were produced. The Rand Refinery has refined over 50 000 tonnes of gold since it first opened in 1921 which is nearly 30% of all the gold that has ever been mined.

The Krugerrand is without a doubt the flagship of the Rand Refinery and is also a firm favorite amongst investors and collectors who relish the fact that the design doesn’t change.

The obverse of the coin consistently features an image of Paul Kruger who was president of South Africa at the end of the 19th century.Even though academic opinion on Kruger is divided, he was accorded a state funeral in Pretoria on 16th december 1904. He is now buried in what is called the Heroes Acre in the Church street Cemetery. And his head is now on the famous Krugerrand coin!

At the top of the coin the words 'South Africa' are written in English and in Afrikaans.

The reverse side of the coin features an image of a famous South African Springbok, leaping through the grass. The symbolic animal has appeared on Krugerrands since 1967 and its design was created by Coert Laurens Steynberg, a renowned sculptor who worked in stone, marble, bronze, copper and wood. We can see his initials in the right field between the letter OL of Gold and the ground under the Springbok.

At the top of the coin is inscribed the word 'Krugerrand'-a combination of the two words “Kruger for the president and Rand from the Witwatersrand in the Gauteng province where a large amount of gold was found at the end of the 19th century.

The bottom of the coin features the coin's weight and purity, and the coin's year of minting, 2022, is located to the left of the Springbok image

Among the range of 1oz gold bullion coins available in the market, the Krugerrand is often the product with the lowest premium. Other gold coins such as the Chinese Panda or the Australian Kangaroo have higher premiums, because their design changes every year.

Another characteristic is its colour: also called “crown gold”, the gold-copper alloy gives the coin a distinctive red-orange colour. It also makes the coin more resistant and durable compared to fine .999 fine gold coins.

With a durable composition, timeless design, proven tradability, global liquidity and consistent delivery, the Krugerrand is an investment that withstands the test of time. So don’t hesitate and purchase it on StoneX Bullion today!

Magnifique. simple, solide

Une pièce magnifique avec un alliage de cuivre qui lui donne sa couleur et une dureté excellente ( comparé aux pièces 24 K trop fragile à mon gout ).
