Refinery
A refinery is a specialized facility that extracts and purifies precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, and palladium from raw materials, scrap, or industrial residues. The refining process removes base metals and other impurities, resulting in a final product of certified purity, often marked with a hallmark and fineness stamp.
Refineries are essential to the precious metal supply chain, providing the link between mining, recycling, and the production of investment products such as bars and coins. In addition to producing Good Delivery bullion, many refineries offer assaying, recycling, and customized fabrication services for industrial and jewelry clients.
Leading refineries are certified by organizations such as the LBMA or LPPM, and their bars are accepted in international trading hubs and central bank reserves.
