Medals
In numismatics, a medal refers to a non-denominated struck object, typically made of precious or base metal, that resembles a coin in form but lacks face value and legal tender status. Medals are often issued to commemorate events, celebrate achievements, or showcase artistic designs.
Although the term "medal" is commonly associated with awards in sports or military honors, in the context of coin production, it applies to any item struck without a nominal value. Strictly speaking, the term coin should only be used for objects issued by an official authority with a monetary denomination.
Modern bullion mints often release collector medals, sometimes using the same technology and metal content as coins. However, they are categorized separately in legal and financial terms. While they may possess numismatic or aesthetic value, they are not recognized as legal currency.
