Banco de México
Banco de México (abbreviated to B de M or Banxico) is the central bank of Mexico. It was founded by decree as a corporation on August 25th 1925 by President Plutarco Elías Calles and began operations on September 1st of that year, under the General Management of Alberto Mascareñas Navarro and the first Chairman of the Board, Manuel Gómez Morín.
Since April 1994, by constitutional mandate, the Bank of Mexico is an autonomous institution whose priority objective is to ensure the stability of the purchasing power of the national currency. Article 28 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States states that "the State shall have a central bank that is autonomous in the exercise of its functions and in its administration, and therefore is not a dependency or entity of the Federal Public Administration".
Since January 2019, the Governing Board is composed of Alejandro Díaz de León Carrillo as Governor; Javier Guzmán Calafell, Irene Espinosa Cantellano, Jonathan Heath Constable and Gerardo Esquivel Hernández as deputy Governors.
