The Queen's Beasts have been synonymous with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ever since her coronation in 1953.
The Yale of Beaufort, as depicted on this 10 oz silver coin, is a mythical creature described as being as big as a hippopotamus, with fearsome tusks and horns. Where does the name Beaufort come from? The mother of Henry VII was Lady Margaret Beaufort and therefore dates back to the house of Tudor. This most recent depiction was created by famous Royal Mint designer Jody Clark.
