The Queen's Beasts series by the UK Royal Mint takes its inspiration from the mythical creatures that illustrate the monarchy's lineage. As HM Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey in 1953, 10 specially commissioned statues representing each of the beasts stood watch from the western annexe. Made by sculptor James Woodward, they were based on the King's Beasts, a series of stone statues that were originally created for Henry VII and which can still be seen guarding the moat at Hampton Court Palace to this day.

Mint artist Jody Clark has created a range of truly exquisite designs for a series that takes its inspiration from those famous statues.
