This one-kilo version is among the largest government-issued silver coin in the world.
The design of the reverse of the coin changes annually. The reverse design in 2008 depicts the image of a mouse.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse.
Like its predecessors, the 2013 Silver Koala is struck on a ‘mint-to-order’ basis only. Production closes on announcement of the 2014-dated coin, enabling The Perth Mint to declare its official mintage.
