The motif of the Britannia represents the personification of the British Isles. From 1987 to 1996, the same motif of the Britannia was always depicted. It shows Britannia standing with a trident, shield and helmet, as well as two somewhat martial-looking horses. It is surrounded by a fluted edge. The inscription around the edge reads the word ‘BRITANNIA’, the year of issue ‘2023’, the fine weight and the fineness ‘2 oz 999.9 FINE SILVER’.

The special feature of this coin is that it has new security features in the form of the fluted edge. For example, the background of Britannia is corrugated like waves.
The value side shows the portrait of King Charles III without a crown, as this coin was made at a time when Charles III had not yet been crowned and was therefore not yet officially King of Great Britain. The edge of the coin is engraved with the nominal value ‘5 POUNDS’, the name ‘CHARLES III.’ and the letters ‘D.G.REX.F.D.’, which translates as ‘By the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith’.
