The Coronation Britannia 2023 One Ounce Silver Bullion Coin
The Royal Mint and StoneX Bullion are really excited to announce the launch of a new range of bullions coins to mark a momentous occasion: the Coronation of King Charles III.
With many people never having witnessed a coronation, this historic event brought many communities together in a special moment in time. This series and in particular this Coronation Britannia 2023 one ounce silver coin offer a further opportunity to mark a unique moment in British History.
Let us tell you more about the attributes of this beautiful coin.
Each of these magnificent 2023 1 oz silver coins features on their reverse the image of Britannia, an icon that is recognised around the world. Britannia is an elegant and instantly recognisable figure, a proud warrior which first appeared on Roman coins more than 2000 years ago. Long after the Romans left the shores, Britannia began to be featured on British coins and she has come to symbolise the spirit of a nation.
Since 1987, the design of Philip Nathan features on the Britannia coins and has made Britannia the UK most iconic coin. Here, she is standing upon the rocks in a long flowing robe. In her right hand, Britannia holds her trident, while her left hand holds an olive branch and rests upon a shield, representing peace and protection. All these elements reinforce her strength and power.
The inscriptions around Britannia are : Britannia, 2023, 1 oz, 999, fine silver.
The obverse of the coin depicts Her Majesty King Charles III wearing the Tudor Crown. It has been designed by sculptor Martin Jennings, perhaps best known for his three-dimensional public sculptures of prominent figures from the worlds of politics, military, literature. Martins Jennings said that it was a privilege to sculpt the first official effigy of His Majesty and to receive his personal approval of the design.
In keeping with tradition, the King’s portrait faces to the left, the opposite direction to Queen Elizabeth II. The Latin inscription surrounding the effigy reads: • CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D • 2 POUNDS • 2023;
Since 1987, when the Britannia series was launched, the Royal mint has innovated a range of special features. They make this coin the most secured coin in the world.
The first enhancement to the reverse side of the coin is the updated background wave design which appears when light is reflected at a certain angle on the coin. The second addition to the Britannia Silver Coin is the inclusion of smooth tincture lines on Britannia’s shield which now bears the Union Flag. The third and one of the most important elements is a holographic image of a padlock in the bottom left, when the coin is tilted this changes between a trident and a padlock. Last but not the least, micro-text in Latin phrase ‘DECUS ET TUTAMEN’ meaning ‘An Ornament and a Safeguard’ is etched along the inner rim of the coin.
It should be said that this coin does not feature the traditional Britannia edge castellation. In line with the Royal Mint’s commitment to sustainability (commitment made also by the new King) the same crowned obverse as the rest of the coronation bullion coin range has been used. This allows to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
Each coin in the range is available in limited numbers, here only 200 000. Do not wait to secure your copy today on StoneX Bullion.
