The Armenian silver coin ‘Noah's Ark’ has been minted as an ounce coin for the purpose of capital investment since mid-2011 and is thus one of the youngest ‘representatives’ of this coin type. It currently has a nominal value of 200 dram. This Armenian currency was introduced as the official currency in 1993 and is used only in Armenia. The tradition of the events surrounding the ‘Noah's Ark’ is one of the most important, symbolising a new beginning and the power of God. ‘Ark’, translated from Latin, means ‘box’. This is also the reason why it is depicted as box-shaped in many illustrations. With the help of this ark, Noah and his family, together with pairs of land animals, were to be brought to safety from a flood. In Armenia, there is a strong connection between the republic and the biblical tradition of the story of Noah's Ark. This story says that the ark stranded on the Armenian Mount Ararat after the end of the flood.
