This unique bar depicts an image based on the traditional Korean card game ‘Hwa-tu’. Commonly referred to in English as ‘Go-Stop’, the game uses 48 cards with 12 different groupings, symbolising the 12 months of the year.
‘Hwa-tu’ is played during the traditional Korean harvest festival of Chuseok, which takes place on the 15th August. The Moon card falls into the August card group and shows an image of a full moon above a mountain. You can see the faint outline of a rabbit pounding grain. This is the famous ‘Moon Rabbit’, star of the Korean folk tale of a rabbit living on the moon.
