1 oz gold Philharmonic mixed years

First issued in 1989 by the Austrian Mint, the Philharmonic coin is one of Europe’s preferred coins. By acquiring this gold coin on StoneX Bullion today, you will be sure to make a safe and successful investment.

The Austrian Mint( Münze österreich) was founded in 1194, initially with 12 tons of silver paid to release King Richard I of England. (it was a ransom paid to the Duke of Austria Leopold V Babenberg who decided to start minting silver coins using a part of this silver). The Austrian Mint operates from its facility in Vienna until now, and continues to create coins of exceptional artistic value and craftsmanship like this beautiful 1oz gold coin presented here today.

This coin was designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, the Austrian Mint’s chief engraver. It was created by Pesendorfer near the beginning of his career. He has now retired after winning many awards but his legacy stays on and his talent is still recognised and acclaimed throughout the world.

For the reverse, Pesendorfer chose to present eight characteristic orchestral instruments: four violins either side of a cello in the foreground and the Viennese horn, the bassoon and the harp behind. The motif is always the same and only the mintage year changes. The inscription "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" stands in a semicircle. Austria is proud of their historic musical tradition and has chosen here to honour its musical geniuses (Mozart, Haydn, Strauss etc…)together with its famous Philharmonic Orchestra.

The obverse side features the famous pipe organ from the Goldener Saal of the Viennese Musikverein, recognized throughout the world as the backdrop to the Philharmonic’s New Year concerts. The original organ was built by Friedrich Ladegast in 1872 and is a result of many influences from his travel around Europe including his work with Paris organ builder Cavaillé-Coll. The organ has had several makeovers and renovation since. We can find on the obverse of the coin the engraved name of the state "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" above the organ, the coin denomination value, the weight and purity of the coin and the coin mintage year under the organ.

This is a timeless and classic coin which will be a welcome addition to your collection. The product is pre-owned and may have minor tear and wear but this will not affect the value of the coin. Its purity level is 0.9999 and it has a denomination of 100 euros or 2000 Austrian Schilling. As this is a mixed year product, you will receive a year of our choosing.
