1/4 oz Maple Leaf Gold Coin | 2024
Since 1979, the Maple Leaf has been minted by the mint The Royal Canadian Mint, whereby "Maple Leaf" means nothing other than "maple leaf", the national symbol of Canada. It stands for tolerance, peace and unity. Unlike a "normal" maple leaf, which has 23 points, it only has 11 points. These coins are the first since the minting of the Maple Leaf to feature a new monarch, namely Charles III.
The Obverse Side
You can see the familiar maple leaf that also adorns Canada's national flag. Very finely worked, you can recognise the individual branches within the leaf. The background is hatched and is a security feature against counterfeiting. Above the leaf, you can see the curved lettering "CANADA", with the fineness "9999" arranged a little below it on the right and left. Below the leaf you can read "FINE GOLD", "1/4 OZ OR PUR".
The Reverse Side
The value side of the coin, which is fluted at the edge, shows the portrait of King Charles III looking to the left. His mother, Queen Elizabeth II, always looked to the right on all coins. The king is not wearing a crown on this portrait. Rather, a festive suit is indicated. On closer inspection, you will recognise the initials "SR" on the right-hand lapel of the jacket, a reference to the Canadian engraver Steven Rosati, who created this portrait of King Charles III. The inscription "CHARLES III" is emblazoned above his head, and "10 DOLLARS 2024" can be recognised at the bottom edge, as the Maple Leaf is official currency. The fine weight of this coin is 7.775875 g.
