10 Mark King Ludwig II Bavaria | Gold | 1874-1886
Almost no other German king is internationally known as Ludwig II of Bavaria. Even if you don't know him, you know about his most famous work: the castle of Neuschwanstein. The king himself designed the building, which today represents the splendour of German castles and palaces all over the world. However, Ludwig II was not just dreams and no facts, as he is sometimes accused of. He coped with his government affairs conscientiously almost until his last day. He made sure that his regency proceeded correctly and often made comments and recommendations in the government documents he received. Although he fought alongside Austria during the Austro-German war, Ludwig supported Prussia in the Franco-Prussian war, and also announced the end of Bavaria as an independent kingdom.
