10 Mark King Karl Wurttemberg | Gold | 1864-1891
As an independent kingdom, Württemberg was allowed to mint its own coins. Therefore, these coins show the image of King Karl.
Karl was a purely liberal monarch, so not only he granted his subjects the freedom of press and of association, but also the right to general, secret, direct and equal vote for the representatives of the House of the People in the bicameral parliament of Württemberg. Karl of Würtemberg also joined the Northern German Confederation, from which the German Reich later emerged.
Although he preferred to spend his time in private instead of investing it for his kingdom - he happened to accumulate 800 royal documents to sign - much has changed his kingdom, so this coin is a piece of history interesting for collectors.
