Gold Corona coins were manufactured at the Austrian Mint, one of the oldest in the world. They date back to 1892 when the Austro-Hungarian Empire reformed the currency. Together with the 20 Corona, 10 Corona gold pieces replaced the Gulden.
The coins were struck every year until 1912, the final one marking the 82nd birthday of Franz Joseph I. However, the Gold Coronas were reintroduced after the death of the Emperor in 1916, although all gold coins after that bear the commemorative date of 1912.
