You'll see Britannia, gazing sideways, adorned with a helmet, shield, and sword. Upon closer inspection, wave-like formations fill the background. From the viewer's perspective within the division of the British flag, an emblematic shield is held in her right hand, symbolizing her resilience. The edge inscription reads "BRITANNIA," the year "2024," the denomination "1/10 oz," and "999.9 FINE GOLD." If you look closely beneath the ground on which Britannia stands, you'll spot the name "NATHAN," attributed to artist Philipp Nathan who created this motif in 1987.
Reverse Side
The reverse side features the first coin portrait of King Charles III, sculpted by artist Martin Jennings and personally approved by the king. Noticeably, Charles gazes leftward, unlike his mother Queen Elizabeth II. The surrounding inscription reads "CHARLES III," "D G REX F D," and the face value of this exquisite coin is "10 POUNDS." The abbreviated letters stand for the British motto "Dei Gratia Rex Fidei Defensor," translated as "By the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith."
Anti-Counterfeit Features on the Obverse Side
To prevent replication, The Royal Mint has integrated several distinctive features. On the lower left side, you'll notice a reeded circle. Depending on your perspective, this circle may resemble a trident or a padlock. Additionally, the wave-like background and the rifling on Britannia's shield serve as further safeguards against imitation. Around the height of the letter "N" in the inscription "999.9 FINE GOLD," a very small engraved motto reads "DECUS ET TUTAMEN," which translates to "An Ornament and a Safeguard."
