1/2 oz Somali Elephant | Gold | 2024

Do you, like so many people, associate a large number of wild animals with this African country? The "African Wildlife" coin series of the issuing country Somalia has been honouring this idea since 2004. However, this "centrepiece", in the truest sense of the word, was not minted in Somalia, but the Bavarian Central Mint is responsible for this coinage.

The Obverse Side

It shows two elephants in a barren landscape under a blazing sun. It is framed by the inscription "AFRICAN WILDLIFE - 1/2 oz Au 999.9 - ELEPHANT". You are therefore looking at a coin with a purity of 999.9 gold, whereby the letters are the Latin abbreviation of "aurum", which translates as "gold".

The Reverse Side

Here you can see the Somali coat of arms, which is held by two leopards. Above this, you can see the lettering "SOMALI REPUBLIC", the year "2024" divided into the right and left sides, and "500 SHILLINGS" below. The coin therefore has a face value of 500 Somali shillings.
