Xetra-Gold
Xetra-Gold is a gold-backed exchange-traded security issued by Deutsche Börse in cooperation with Deutsche Bank. Each unit of Xetra-Gold represents a claim to one gram of physical gold, stored in secure vaults in Germany. Investors can trade Xetra-Gold like a stock on the Xetra platform, gaining exposure to the gold price without handling physical metal.
Although every certificate is fully backed by physical gold, the delivery of physical bars or coins to investors incurs additional fees, and the legal and logistical process for redemption remains partially undefined, particularly regarding resale of delivered coins.
Xetra-Gold is popular with institutional and retail investors who want gold exposure within regulated securities portfolios. However, it remains a synthetic investment until redemption, meaning it does not replace direct physical ownership of gold in terms of personal custody or tactile possession.
