Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is an alloy composed of 92.5% silver (925/1000) and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. While sterling silver is highly valued in the jewelry and decorative arts industries, it plays only a minor role in bullion and investment markets, where modern silver coins and bars are typically minted from 999 fine silver or higher.

The term "sterling" originates from the English silver penny, which was historically minted in this alloy. Sterling silver is prized for its durability and luster, making it suitable for wearable items, flatware, and artistic applications. However, due to its lower silver content and the inclusion of base metals, it is not used for investment-grade bullion products, which require higher purity standards.
