Proof Coins
The term "proof" refers to coins of exceptional quality and corresponds to the German production method known as Polierte Platte. Proof coins are struck multiple times using specially polished dies and hand-selected, mirror-finished planchets. This process results in extremely sharp detail and a high-contrast finish between the frosted design elements and the mirror-like background. The dies used for proof coins are also frequently cleaned or re-engraved to maintain precision.
In many cases, proof coins are produced in high relief, adding additional depth and visual impact to the design. They are typically not intended for circulation and are instead struck for collectors who value artistry, technical perfection, and low mintages. Because of the intensive production process and often limited edition sizes, proof coins are priced significantly higher than their bullion counterparts and are considered both numismatic and artistic collectibles.
