The Stratocaster Guitar Daphne Blue
Established in 1946 in Southern California, Fender has become a cultural icon and champions the spirit of Rock N Roll throughout the years. Everyone from beginners to the world’s most acclaimed artists have used Fender instruments, amps and gear. It is nearly eight decades since Leo Fender built his first electric guitar as he wanted to make more exciting tones and be louder.
In the 50’s, slick new colours were appearing on new cars beginning with the Daphne Blue in the GM Cadillac colour in 1958. Just two years later, Fender decided to make it popular for Fender Stratocaster guitar too.
The reverse of the coin
It presents a miniature reproduction of the iconic Fender guitar with a beautiful Daphne blue coloration.The attention to details is amazing: the alder body, the c neck profile, the hot 50s strat pickups, the fingerboard , the two-point synchronised tremolo and S-1 switch have been carefully designed and copied from a normal size guitar.The reverse incorporates the inscription: 1 oz, 999.9 Ag, the weight of the coin and the fineness of the silver”.
The obverse of the coin
It features the effigy of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II portrayed by Ian Rank-Broadley. Already an established sculptor whose inspiration was the Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci, Ian Rank Broadley was invited in 1996 to participate in a competition to design a new royal portrait.
He said about his portrait that it is clearly recognisable and that it needed to be respectful and reflect a sense of the Queen’s age.
On this side and written along the fingerboard are the inscriptions: "2023" – the year of issue, "ELIZABETH II" – the name of the Queen, "SOLOMON ISLANDS" – the issuing country, "2 DOLLARS" - the face value.
